Our Story

At Spectrum Home & Family Care, our journey began back in 2001 in the small, caring community of Nakusp, BC. It all started when two remarkable women—Shirley Kosiancic and Hillary Bitten—noticed something important was missing. When the Interior Health Authority discontinued local homemaking services, seniors and people with special needs were left without vital support to stay safely in their homes.

Shirley and Hillary, both natural caregivers and long-time volunteers, rolled up their sleeves and stepped in. They founded Spectrum with a simple but powerful mission: to provide respectful, compassionate in-home care that lets people live life on their own terms.

Their client-first, heart-led approach quickly struck a chord. Word spread, and it wasn’t long before organizations like Community Living BC, Blue Cross, and ICBC came calling. Even health authorities took notice, partnering with Spectrum to help deliver smooth, coordinated care in the communities we serve.

In 2004, Spectrum officially became incorporated—and continued to grow while keeping its roots in warmth and trust.

The Commitment to Compassionate Care Continues

Susan Yurychuk and her daughters, Jordan and Rebecca, brought new energy to the business, but kept everything people loved: the personalized care, the homegrown values, and the belief that everyone deserves to feel safe, supported, and valued at home. Under their leadership, Spectrum has expanded across Western Canada and the Yukon, without ever losing the personal touch that made it special in the first place.

Today, our dedicated team is here to offer “Peace of Mind for You and Yours.” Whether you need a helping hand, a listening ear, or full-time support, Spectrum is here to make sure you or your loved ones can live with comfort, dignity, and joy—at home, where the heart is.
